School Council
School Council plays a key role in Victorian Government schools and as a team, Council supports the Principal to provide the best possible educational outcomes for students.
One of the key functions of School Council is to contribute to the establishment of the broad vision and direction of the school. Strategic Planning is the process of reflecting on past performance, establishing future directions and deciding what will consitute success.
School Council is responsible for overseeing the School’s financial performance. It is a legal and Departmental requirement that Council makes sure that monies coming into the School are properly expended and authorised.
School Council is responsible for ratifying policies that reflect the School’s values and support the School’s broad direction, as outlined in its Strategic Plan.
At Knox Gardens there are three categories of membership:
A mandated elected parent category (8 members)
A mandated elected Department of Education and Training (DET) employee (school staff) category (4 members)
A community member category (1 member)
The Principal is the Executive Officer of School Council.
The term of office for members is two years. Half the members must retire each year and this creates vacancies for the annual school council elections. Elections are generally held in February each year - information will be available on the website and in the newsletter.
