Sustainability
At Knox Gardens Primary School we are proud to share our expansive grounds, with different natural features throughout the school with our community.
When we nurture our school grounds, we strengthen our connection to our school community.
Knox Gardens Primary School is lucky to have expansive grounds, with different natural features throughout the school.
Our Bush Park is listed as a Site of Biological Significance with Knox Council and is a habitat for possums, native birds and insects. Our Sensory Garden contains varied native plants, lawns and a dry creek bed for children to play in. Our Vegetable Garden is a productive space and fresh produce is used for cooking. Our Indigenous Garden is filled with plants that are native to Australia, nestled beside our yarning circle. We are proud that in 2018 we received the Best School Exhibiting Biodiversity award from the Victorian Schools Garden Awards.
We have a team of Environmental Leaders from Year 1-6, who are responsible for monitoring power usage, compost and paper recycling within their classroom. Environmental Leaders promote our initiatives to the wider school community through articles in the newsletter and our school assembly.
During Term 2 and 3, our Garden Club mentor program meets to completing tasks such as weeding, mulching, planting, pruning and taking care of our large grounds space while, senior students stepping into a mentoring relationship with junior students, and strengthening connections between students across year levels. Everyone enjoys coming out to Garden Club!
