STEM and Digital Technologies
The Digital Technology Curriculum is implemented from Foundation to Year 6. Blue-Bots are a great introduction to coding, creating sequences and directions using mazes and obstacles for the Blue-Bots to move around.
Students progress very quickly to Scratch Jnr and Scratch, where they use their mathematical knowledge of measurement and geometry and of course, problem-solving skills.
The Education Department also has a Minecraft Education Edition which is accessed through the user names and passwords used for Office 365. In Year 4 and 5, Minecraft has been used to explore and re-create the First Fleet, constructing and building paddocks to explore area and perimeter math problems as well as to use for data displays and graphing.
Across the school, it is imperative that all students are taught how to protect themselves online and how to create a positive digital footprint through observing their netiquette and learning to be Cyber Safe. From Foundation to Year 6, all students learn how to be safe and ethical when using digital technologies. Each year the Cyber Safety Project delivers student workshops, teacher professional development and parent information evenings. More information can be found on the Cyber Safety Project website.
